A New, permanent home: building for good is helping a Massachusetts nonprofit trade a leased city location for a new space to grow and help children in need.

Since 2002, inspired by the vision of a future free of childhood poverty, Cradles to Crayons has led with a mission: to provide children from birth through age 12, who are living in homeless or low-income situations, the everyday essentials they need to thrive—at home, at school, and at play.

Through a grassroots community effort fueled by 75,000 volunteers and generous community and corporate donations, Cradles to Crayons has been able to collect new and nearly new children’s items to provide over 1 million children with the essentials they need to survive and thrive.  The donated items are packaged at the Cradles to Crayons warehouse—the “Giving Factory”—and then distributed to local disadvantaged children through the help of partner agencies.

After 17 years in its leased Brighton location, the Giving Factory is relocating to Newton, MA.  With the help of B4G volunteer attorneys, Cradles to Crayons will buy, renovate, and equip an approximately 37,500-square-foot building to become the new Massachusetts Giving Factory warehouse and office space.

Cradles to Crayons’ new Newton location will allow them to continue towards their goal of helping every child feel safe, warm, ready to learn, and valued.

The new Cradles to Crayons ‘Giving Factory’ is now a reality, thanks to the help of our Building for Good volunteers. We were able to save resources and focus on supporting the children in our communities without the added stress of legal issues.
